A Personal Connection to Place
Frank Family Vineyards has recently introduced Miller House, a unique hospitality space in Calistoga, California, merging personal history with contemporary design. The new venue is named after co-owner Leslie Frank, and holds sentimental value for the couple—it's where they exchanged vows. Crafting this space was a labor of love, enhanced by the expertise of Hawkins Interiors and Backen & Backen, resulting in a homey yet sophisticated atmosphere that invites 40 guests.
Designing a Story
Leslie Frank, who transitioned from a news anchor to the wine industry, approaches her work with a storyteller's lens, an influence clearly reflected within Miller House. The design team aimed to create warmth and intimacy, with an A-frame structure that boasts high ceilings while retaining a cozy vibe. Thoughtful seating arrangements foster conversation, balancing social interaction with comfortable gathering zones.
Nature as an Inspiration
Every element of Miller House echoes a connection to its natural surroundings. The landscape features native plantings and mountain views, crafted by Claudia Schmidt Landscape Design, leading to an ambiance of calm and tranquility. The seamless integration of nature into the architecture enhances the visitor experience, reminding guests of their unique connection to the land and its story.
Timeless Materials and Aesthetic
Warmth and elegance punctuate the interior design, with yellow cedar ceilings embracing the open space. Custom dining tables, constructed from light ash wood by Leslie's brother, add a personal touch while harmonizing with the overall aesthetic. The palette leans towards neutral tones, complemented by cognac leather tufted sofas, inviting guests to relax amid a chic yet comfortable setting.
Custom finishes abound in Miller House, from the oversized black chandeliers to the soft wool rugs, creating a blend of modern sophistication and rustic charm. Each aspect of the decor—like the nature-inspired wallpaper in the bathrooms—ensures comfort and cohesiveness throughout the venue, transforming a simple gathering space into an immersive experience.
Creating Meaningful Spaces
Ultimately, Miller House stands not just as an event venue but as a canvas for storytelling, where family, history, and design unite. It embodies a mantra of meaningful design, demonstrating how architecture and aesthetics can work in harmony to create a universally welcoming space. The Frank Family Vineyards has embraced the art of design, showcasing that spaces can hold stories and memories while offering beauty to those who enter.
