On the picturesque coast of Rijeka, Croatia, innovation meets nature with the unveiling of PlivaTri, a remarkable floating triangular pavilion designed as part of the MEDS Design Workshop 2025. Rather than simply occupying space, this pavilion transforms the experience of waterfront relaxation, countering the scarcity of comfortable beachfront areas with its unique geometric structure.
Constructed from recycled plastic gallons and locally sourced materials, PlivaTri is not just a visual delight; it stands as a testament to sustainable design embedded deeply within Rijeka’s maritime traditions. The pavilion features an open central void, surrounded by a walkway that invites visitors to engage in swimming, resting, or simply enjoying the scenery. Its elegant shape draws connections among water, city, and port—a trio harmonized by nature.
Building a Sustainable Future
The vision behind PlivaTri goes beyond aesthetics. Each modular component of the structure is a lesson in sustainable craftsmanship. Comprised of three modular units, the pavilion allows for reconfiguration, adapting its purpose to whatever event it hosts—whether that be a quiet retreat or a lively gathering.
